World Bank Africa Fellowships

World Bank Africa Fellowships:  The Africa Region of the World Bank Group is launching the World Bank Group Fellowship Program for Ph.D. students of African descent. 

The program will increase the diverse workforce that is a priority for the Bank and its clients.

The Fellowship Program aims to build a pipeline of researchers and professionals from the African Diaspora, particularly women, who are interested in working in the development field at home or abroad, and in starting careers with the World Bank Group.

"The Fellowship Program represents an incredible opportunity not only for young African scholars to conduct research and develop their careers in development, but also for the World Bank Group to learn from their experiences and fresh insight, as well as absorb the tremendous energy young people can contribute to our work and mission," said Sean McGrath, Vice President for Human Resources at the World Bank Group.

World Bank Africa Fellowships - About the Africa Fellowship

Fellows will spend a minimum of six months at the World Bank in Washington, D.C. getting hands-on experience in development work. 

This includes knowledge generation and dissemination, design of global and country policies and the building of institutions to achieve inclusive growth in developing countries. 

While benefitting from research and innovation in multiple sectors, Fellows will also work on economic policy, technical assistance, and lending for eliminating poverty and increasing shared prosperity. 

Special attention will be given to work with Fragile and Conflict-Affected States.

Fellows will be expected to complete a research project and prepare a research paper to present to staff. High-standard papers may be published internally.

Specifically, selected participants will:

·         Gain a better understanding of the World Bank Group's mission and operations

·         Access quality data for their research work

·         Interact with seasoned experts in their field of development

·         Contribute to the World Bank Group's mission

Africa Fellowship - Who Should Apply?

Doctoral students of African descent within one or two years of completing a Ph.D. program in the following fields: Economics, Demography, Applied Statistics and Econometrics, Impact Evaluation, Education, Health, Energy, Agriculture, and Infrastructure.

World Bank Africa Fellowships - Candidates Must:

Be enrolled in an academic institution and returning to university after the fellowship

Be 32 years of age or below

Have an excellent command of English, both written and verbal

Possess strong quantitative and analytical skills.

Africa Fellowships - Selection Process

After submitting an application online, the most promising candidates will be identified and their application packages forwarded to World Bank Africa Region managers and participating departments for consideration. Departments and managers will then indicate their preferences, as well as the project to be undertaken.

Selected candidates will then be notified and, upon acceptance, will be hired as short-term consultants for a minimum of six months. Fellows will receive consultant fees, round-trip economy class air travel to Washington, D.C. from their university, and worker's compensation insurance.

Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program

Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program: The Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program scholarship provides annual awards to cover the cost of completing a master's degree or its equivalent.

Value - $ 32,000 per annum.

Grant award period: 1 year

If the academic program is longer than one year, it may be renewed for a second consecutive year or a portion thereof.

Scholarship Application Eligibility Criteria:

You must be between the ages of 25 and 45.

Have at least 2, preferably 4 to 5, years of recent full-time professional work experience

Have a university degree

Have good health & good character

The scholarship provides benefits for the recipient only, covering:

Economy class air travel between the home country and the host university at the start of the study program and one return journey following the end of the overall scholarship period

In addition to the ticket, scholars receive a US $500 travel allowance for each trip

Tuition and the cost of basic medical and accident insurance usually obtained through the university

A monthly subsistence allowance to cover living expenses, including books.

Scholarships and Awards for International Undergraduate Students - Trent University

Scholarships and Awards for International Undergraduate Students: Trent International Program (TIP) offers a limited number of highly competitive renewable Full and Tuition scholarships to International Undergraduate Students who are not citizens or permanent residents of Canada.
These scholarships and Awards are tenable for up to four years of an Honours degree if a "B" average is maintained each year and are available for students entering the University in September.
TRENT-ESL students are eligible to apply for International Scholarships and Awards upon successful completion of the TRENT-ESL program.
Trent International Full Scholarships:

The amont of the scholarship is CDN$22,000 per academic year (8 months).

The scholarship covers international tuition and ancillary fees. Depending on need, may also include books, health insurance, room and board (from Sept-April) and/or living expenses.

It is based on outstanding academic achievement, community and/or international service, excellent record of extra-curricular activities and leadership, as well as an assessment of financial need. 

International Tuition Scholarships:

The amount is CDN$14,000 per academic year and the scholarship covers international tuition, ancillary fees, and health insurance (from Sept-April).

LLM Scholarship in Democratic Governance and Rule of Law: LLM Scholarship in Democratic Governance and Rule of Law - Ohio Northern University, USA
The LLM Scholarship in Democratic Governance and Rule of Law is open to young lawyers from emerging democracies.

It provides young lawyers from emerging democracies with the training and tools to implement law reforms that support stable democratic institutions and the rule of law in a free-market economy.
The LL.M. is a fully-funded, one-year program of study designed for lawyers practicing in the public sector whose first law degree was earned from a law school outside the U.S.
This program is not designed to help our students pass the American Bar and/or practice law in the United States. Students are required to commit to 2 years further public service upon return to their home countries.

Through small classes with outstanding faculty, close interaction among the students and with the faculty, and numerous short seminars and field observations, students will receive an intensive education in practical democracy and law.
Admission is open to lawyers with two to five years experience in the public sector, working on governance and rule of law issues.

Additional criteria include a recognized law degree, admission to the bar, a PBT TOEFL score of 600 or higher or a CBT TOEFL score of 250 or higher, and recommendations (including those from employers, and U.S. foreign aid offices and contractors). The personal statement from the applicant will also be weighed heavily.

The final selection will be made by the director and LL.M. committee at the law college.
